Tally by Munetris

Check an EDI interchange's envelope before your partner rejects it

Paste or drop an X12 or EDIFACT file. Tally finds its separators, lays out the interchange, groups and transactions, and checks every count and control number. If a trailer is wrong, you can copy the file back with it corrected.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded or stored, and the page's security policy blocks every network request.

Example

Paste the raw file, envelope included. Separators are read from the ISA segment or the UNA string, so anything a partner sends works.

      Questions

      What does Tally check?

For X12: the ISA is exactly 106 characters (and which field has the wrong width if not), separators don't clash, ISA13 is nine digits and IEA02 matches it, GE and IEA counts, SE segment counts, every control number pair, duplicate control numbers, dates and times, and whether the GS01 group code fits the transaction type. For EDIFACT: the UNA string, UNB syntax and dates, UNT segment counts, UNE and UNZ counts (groups or messages), every reference pair, groups mixed with ungrouped messages, and characters that UNOA does not allow.

What does "Copy with corrected trailers" change?

Only the counts and control references in the trailers: SE01/SE02, GE01/GE02 and IEA01/IEA02 for X12, or UNT, UNE and UNZ for EDIFACT. Each is set from its header and the segments actually present. Everything else, including line breaks and spacing, is copied unchanged. Use it to resend a test file, not to hide a problem in production data.

Does it validate the business content?

No. Tally checks the envelope, not whether a purchase order has the right segments or code values. That needs the implementation guide for the specific transaction, which your translator or map applies.

      Who makes this?

Tally is built by Myggiz Software B.V. in the Netherlands, by an integration consultant with 30 years of B2B and EDI work. It is one of the free Munetris tools for teams running B2B gateways.
